Found your tip using another laptop, followed your instructions and whatever had caused the lock up was sorted and booted first time. CPU is A6 -3400M and graphics is Radeon HD 6650M. Keyboard would not work , powered down and received the black screen of death, Hard drive was not read. It is responding to nothing at all!
Worked with my Dell Inspiron 1100. Blank or blinking screens are a hardware problem. Even though the piece of junk is still under warranty, I'm tempted to replace it with another brand if this is all the more reliability I can expect from them. I've tried everything and the only thing that has worked is turning the dam thing on and off until it wakes up.

Bottom line is that I can't hold the power button after the power drain cycle to try and clear and/or reset whatever it is to resolve this issue. (This computer has Read on a guide that sometimes these problems are related to an error in the BIOS, in particular is needed a procedure called " clear CMOS" which discharge and reset the Acer Aspire E15 Black Screen Enjoy.
